Dear Olive Press readers,

Welcome back to another week of goings on in Spain as we work feverishly towards publishing our second national edition of the Olive Press.

For the very first time ever, the newspaper will be landing in Barcelona as we make in-roads into the extensive expat community in the Catalan capital.

The Olive Press Newspaper National

From Cadiz to Catalunya, Olive Press readers will be able to enjoy a fat and action-packed slice of news, culture, events and property – all curated from the best of Spain – when it lands at the end of this coming week.

This is not limited to: A dust-off between Barcelona and Madrid over which is hosting the better festivals this year; the best exhibitions across the country, a dive into Jerez’s culinary scene now its the food capital; a 16-page property magazine, Marbella golf legends tournament and even a write-up on Cordoba’s secret valley that no one knows about.

Not to mention comprehensive coverage of all the news affecting expats (okay north European and American immigrants) in Spain. And hell, Aussies and Kiwis migrants as well, why not.

On that note, here’s this week’s Editor’s picks:

EDITOR'S PICKS:

Check out our handy guide from travel guru Fiona Govan on how the UK’s new ETA travel visa will impact dual nationality citizens. Especially useful for the lucky few who flaunt both Spanish and British passports, but worry that using the wrong one might get them on a Border Force blacklist.

For those who have been knocking around the Costa del Sol for a few years, there was an interesting update on one of the (numerous) long-running unsolved murder mysteries. Latvian waitress Agnese Klavina went missing in 2014 at the age of 30, with two notorious Brits implicated but never convicted. In 2023, the buried remains of a woman turned up near a property of one of the suspects, raising hopes that this might be Klavina. Unsatisfyingly, the Guardia Civil finally confirmed this week that it was not – and now we have a new murder mystery on our hands.

Here’s one you won’t be expecting. If you’ve been keeping up with the wider Here’s a warning that may interest a few of you. A pair of Brits, aged 50 and 70, got themselves arrested in Alicante this week. The offence? Running an illegal IPTV operation, with around 330 paying customers. They are now facing quite a few fraud-related charges. It is illegal, after all.

I’ll leave you with some tragic but important news – the search for Pete Jackson, 54, who was reported missing from a Benidorm hospital over the weekend, had the outcome most feared after his body was found in the area. The family thanked everyone in their efforts to track down their lost loved one, who was described as ‘very popular, social, and happy’, Really sad stuff.

Have a great weekend all,

Best,
Walter
