| Dear Olive Press readers, Well we’ve only gone and done it – released an entirely revamped, redesigned and reimagined national edition of the Olive Press. | | By now people are starting to pick it up in the bars, shops and petrol stations. The style and tone is a departure from what you might be used to, being the loyal reader of all our 20-year existence as you are. | | Since it’s now a monthly publication and covering the entirety of Spain, the editorial stance has shifted slightly, away from breaking news and the latest goings on in local coverage. | | Instead, in the newspaper we now focus our beam a little more widely, preferring to cover the big stories, in-depth investigations into issues that affect our readers, and a variety of topical features covering travel, culture, health, the arts. | | Don’t get me wrong – the Olive Press is still covering the breaking news, the latest developments, the wild crime and narco antics and everything in between. | | But now, your first port of call to keep up with Olive Press news should be through our website. Here is where you are going to get your daily fix of what is going on in Spain. | | Here is where you’ll find everything that’s in the newspaper, plus so much more, including more detailed versions of the same stories, and a tonne of other in-depth stories, investigations and features that were either too timely for the print edition or just failed to make the cut. | | Whether you go direct to the website, or you prefer to get your hit from our daily 7pm news mailout, or pick out the stories you want to read on our social media channels, we’re still here pumping out the news 7 days a week. | | If you want to get your hands on a copy of the newspaper but don’t know where to find it, just know that we distribute from Vejer, Cadiz, in the west, all the way to Castellon in the east. | | But this will expand too – next in our sights is to move into Barcelona and Catalunya, a region that historically the Olive Press has left little footprint in, and then Madrid. Watch this space. | | Our frontpage splash in the inaugural national edition was a powerful and well-researched investigation by Alessio Ghirlanda into plans to evict hundreds of people (including a number of Brits) to make way for another mass-tourism golf complex on the Costa del Sol. Step this way to read our report on the corporate bullies and their unending greed. | | One of our biggest stories from 2025 was the collapse of funeral firm Iberian, leaving hundreds of very worried expats in Spain in the lurch. The story has been a really devastating one, with so many retirees now left without coverage for when they pass, no means to find fresh cash to pay for their funeral – and no way to recoup their losses. Well, the news gets even worse for the long-suffering victims, as our exclusive report by Rachel Gore explains. | | As the hunting season comes to an end in the next couple of weeks, the fate of Spain’s hunting dogs has come back into the spotlight. It seems that it’s more economical for the handlers to kill them and breed a new generation than maintain them over the off-season. And for the time they are allowed to live, they are frequently crammed into tight cages. Read our shocking report here. | | Who would’ve thought that it would be the Cadiz Carnaval that would finally send the Olive Press into the stratosphere? The decision by one chirigota (comedy troupe) to dress up as the famed physicist – and ALS sufferer – Stephen Hawking, and perform a choreographed wheelchair dance complete with his signature robotic voice captured the attention of the world. And it was us who got the story out there, racking up nearly 15 million views on our video clip and garnering us our 15 minutes of global fame. Opinion has been split, however, over whether the show was genius or tasteless. | | Enjoy the weekend! And please do get in touch with any thoughts or comments you might have! | | | | | | | Edificio Centro Comercial El Duque, first floor, Carretera N340, km 144.5 | | San Luis de Sabinillas, Malaga 29692, Spain | | Copyright © 2025 The Olive Press, All rights reserved. | | | |
