From Deputy Digital Editor
| | | | | Dear Olive Press readers, It’s Ben here, stepping in for your rundown of the best bits and bobs from the last seven days at Olive Press towers. And don’t worry - your trusty Digital Editor Walt will be back sharpish. | | He’s currently away, working hard on the latest stage of the great Olive Press revamp as we enter our third decade as Spain’s top English-language publication. Keep your eyes peeled for more - it’s going to be brilliant. | | The first step of our facelift has already gone down a storm, as many of you who picked up a copy of our brand spanking new, glossy, redesigned and reimagined national edition last week have told us. Thank you to each and everyone of you (too many to count!) who have got in touch to share your thoughts on the paper - keep them coming in! | | As I’m sure you’ll all know by now, we go to print monthly and cover the entirety of Spain. That means more exclusives, in-depth investigations and features covering the things that truly matter to our readers dotted right across the country. | | Of course, we don’t expect you to sit and wait a whole month to find out what’s going on on your doorstep. That’s where the Olive Press website comes into play. Here you’ll find everything stuffed into the paper, plus so much extra, including more detailed versions of the same stories and a tonne of other stuff to sink your teeth into. | | On that note, here’s this week’s Editor’s picks: | | It’s beginning to feel a bit like Groundhog Day. Rain, rain and, for a change, a bit more rain. We do live in Spain, right? This week, we managed to get through not one, or two, but three named storms - Ingrid, Joseph and Kristin - all of which have left their mark. Think flying furniture, falling trees, hurricane force winds and a blanket of snow from Andalucia to Madrid. Whatever happens out there, we’ve got you covered. | | As usual, we’ve had our fair share of exclusives on the stories that really impact expats across Spain. My colleague Rachel Gore spoke to one British couple who were left with nothing after a rogue removal man fled with over €25,000 worth of their belongings. You can read their story here. She also spoke to a former expat leading a campaign of protests in the UK this weekend over the mistreatment of hunting dogs in Spain. | | Our most-read story this week was, so very sadly, about the horrific killing of Victoria Hart, a 33-year-old British mother-of-three living on the Costa del Sol. Her estranged husband has been arrested in connection with her death. A GoFundMe page has since been set up to support her three young children, who unfortunately witnessed the attack. You can donate to it here. RIP | | We’ll end on some good news. We could be close to a cure for one of the deadliest forms of cancer after a team of Spanish scientists successfully treated pancreatic tumour cells in mice, raising hopes that the treatment could work in humans. Over 10,000 people are diagnosed with the disease in Spain every year - but less than 10 per cent survive more than five years after diagnosis. Great work all! | | Have a great weekend all, | | | | | | | Edificio Centro Comercial El Duque, first floor, Carretera N340, km 144.5 | | San Luis de Sabinillas, Malaga 29692, Spain | | Copyright © 2025 The Olive Press, All rights reserved. | | | |
