Sevilla church wins World Architecture award

A CHURCH in Sevilla has won a coveted award at this year’s World Architecture Festival in Singapore.

In the seventh year of the festival, Iglesia La Ascension del Senor – designed by Madrid-based AGi Architects – fended off the competition to scoop the prize for a ‘completed religious building’.

Said to be the largest celebration of architecture anywhere in the world, the jury consisted of some of the world’s most renowned architects and designers.

“Although modest in scale and despite a low budget, AGi succeeded in creating a delicate atmosphere with sophisticated detail,” the jury said.

“The building expresses a confident and considered response to its context.”

During the festival, 33 awards are presented across three main sections: completed buildings, landscape and future projects.
