AN old-age couple have been found stabbed to death inside their home in Madrid.

Marcelina, 80, and Perfecto, 79, were found in their second-storey apartment in the Berruguete neighbourhood in Tetuan, yesterday morning.

Both were found with stab wounds to the neck and surrounded by large pools of dried blood, suggesting they had been dead for several hours.

Neighbours, visibly affected, told press the couple seemed happily in love and went for walks regularly.

The husband had to help the wife down the stairs as she was suffering from cancer, according to EFE.

Policia Nacional were called to the property at 14:40 after calls to the home were not being answered and no one was answering the door to the social worker.

The company called the niece who then contacted police.

Officers entered the apartment with doctors to find Marcelina dead on her bed in the bedroom while the man was found in the living room.

Police are not ruling out any hypothesis as the homicide unit takes over the case.

Sources told EFE that the house looked ‘ransacked’ but police have not settled on a motive for the deaths just yet.

The couple had no children, only brothers and other relatives.

Neighbours told investigators they hadn’t heard any suspicious noises.

The bodies were taken at 6.30 pm to the Forensic Anatomical Institute to perform the autopsies, while the agents remained in the building collecting more evidence.
