COSTA BLANCA nightlife business owners want an urgent meeting with Valencian Community president, Ximo Puig, to talk over a rescue plan to avoid their financial collapse.

Night clubs and late bars were closed in mid-August in a move aimed at reducing the spread of COVID-19.

A local nightlife association has written to Puig outlining measures to support the industry which include financial help and permission for daytime opening.

The Alroa association’s letter said: “We can do no more and we need our jobs, businesses and our sector to be defended.”

They’ve pleaded with Ximo Puig to copy measures in 11 other Spanish regions which allow night venues to reopen with daytime food and drink licences.

“It’s something that can be done indoors and on terraces which will be bound to help in the recovery of local towns and cities,” the letter added.

Alroa claimed that they would not pose a financial threat to existing bars and restaurants.
