Briton arrested in Loja drugs bust

by

OFFICERS from the Guardia Civil have arrested a British national after finding more than one and a half tonnes of cannabis resin in the van he was driving.

The un-named man was detained at the Los Abades service area outside Loja on the A92 Almería-Sevilla road.

According to the Guardia Civil, the 23-year-old – who gave his residence an address in Alicante – acted nervously when a civil guard patrol asked him to open the back of his Mercedes Benz van, while it was stationed at the service area.

Inside, 1.6 tonnes of the drug was found hidden among furniture and plastic boxes. Police believe the amount had a street value of six million euros.

“It was obvious from the smell in the back of the van it was carrying more than just furniture,” a Guardia Civil spokesman said.
