Alhaurin mayor facing fine, not prison

THE mayor of Alhaurin el Grande is no longer facing prison if convicted in the Troya corruption scandal.

Juan Martin Seron stands accused, alongside councillor Gregorio Guerra, of 13 counts of bribery for taking payments of up to 211,900 euros in exchange for planning licences.

The prosecutor has now announced that Seron and Guerra will only face a two million euro fine each and a four year ban from office.

It comes as 18 of the original 20 people embroiled in the town hall scandal have seen all charges dropped against them.
