Hunger strike in La Linea

A DESPERATE Spanish worker is staging a hunger strike in La Linea, claiming he can no longer afford to feed his family.

Juan Miguel Garcia Ruiz – a cleaner employed by the town hall – is taking the drastic action in protest over unpaid wages.

Ruiz began his protest nearly two weeks ago outside the town’s finance office and says he can no longer pay his mortgage and has had the electricity supply cut off to his home.

La Linea mayor Gemma Araujo has confirmed she has spoken to Ruiz and that financial support will be provided.

  1. Well said Sam, the civil servants in power make sure there wages get paid each month whilst sitting in there big house and luckily some of them sitting in there little prison cells but poor familys like the story about are suicidal.

  2. Thank you Ian …. perhaps the olive press can start a campaign and a fundraise to help poor families in the meantime . This man is trying to support his family and we need to help him and others like him , maybe it will shame the town hall into paying him.Cant any olive press readers offer him work to assist him
