British expat jailed for killing abusive husband in Benalmadena

A BRITISH woman, a victim of domestic abuse, has been jailed for five years after murdering her husband at their home in Benalmadena.

Michelle Cornell, 50, stabbed her husband David, 57, in the chest with a kitchen knife in July 2010.

Michelle had been subjected to years of abuse at the hands of her husband, a former car salesman, during their 18-year marriage.

She had not reported the abuse to British or Spanish police and nor had she sought separation or divorce.

She told police her husband had tried to strangle her following an argument, and that she had stabbed him in defence.

The prosecutor had called for an eight-year sentence.

  1. Oh Elle – obviously you have no experience of domestic abuse . the court accepted she had been subject to abuse hence the reason they sentenced her to five years which in my opinion is five years to much.

  2. “The *prosecutor* is now calling for an eight-year prison”
Louie lou. I think the answer lies in the above sentence. The headline is slightly misleading.

  3. SENTENCE WAS PUBLISHED THIS WEEK AT FIVE YEARS.
Piles of evidence from the U.K police showing reports of sustained abuse when she lived in england hence the reason the sentence was low as she was charged with murder but I belive she should have been found not guilty of murder , the jury found her guilty and here we go again probably an appeal when the law in spain allows for self defense if you feel your life is in danger.
