Hit Netflix film starring Adam Sandler slammed for stereotypical depiction of ‘backwater’ Spain

BACKWATER : Malaga airport as shown in the film

ADAM Sandler’s new Netflix topping film has been attacked for an ‘absurdly folksy’ depiction of Spain.

‘Murder Mystery,’ starring Sandler and Jennifer Aniston has been watched by more than 31 million people – smashing records for a Netflix film.

Spain features briefly in the Agatha Christie-style comedic thriller as Aniston and Sandler land on the Costa del Sol to start their European wide tour.

The cliched scene sees the hollywood duo serenaded by a flamenco dancer while they wait at Malaga airport for ‘Senor Gonzales,’ their fedora wearing guide.

“With this bewildering scene, this comedic thriller peaks in terms of surrealism.

“Touching down in Málaga, the couple are confronted with a colorful backwater,” writes Marilo Garcia in El Pais.

Garcia adds: “Not surprisingly, Aniston and Sandler exchange one look and flee from this joke of a country without a backward glance.”

The family comedy currently stands at a disappointing 47% approval rating review site Rotten Tomatoes.
