Praise for police after blindfolded ‘hostage’ rescued from Costa del Sol balcony in front of terrified British expats and holidaymakers

POLICE have been praised after a blindfolded hostage was rescued from an armed ‘maniac’ in front of horrified British expats on the Costa del Sol.

The dramatic operation came after an armed man appeared on the third floor balcony of a flat overlooking Duquesa port, and paraded a bloodied man ‘with his throat cut.’

Policia Local arrived as the assailant held a ‘large kitchen knife’ to the victim’s throat, as he stood blindfolded and tied to the railings.

TERRIFYING: Man with victim on his balcony in Duquesa

“Yesterday afternoon, in the port of Duquesa, local police officers intervened, avoiding a tragic situation, saving the life of a Serbian citizen, who had been threatened with death by a fellow national.

“The victim, blindfolded, and stained with blood, was held by the aggressor on one of the balconies overlooking the port, in front of astonished neighbours, ” said Manilva town hall in a statement.

COURAGEOUS: Officer runs in to rescue hostage

The officers were able to arrest the man after a pair of quick thinking British holidaymakers, staying in the same apartment bloc, called Marina Real, handed over their keys.

“The officers immediately tried to calm the aggressor down, who was waving a knife in a threatening manner.

“While an officer was trying to convince him, her partner gained entry to the house and reduced the aggressor, ” continued the statement.

The Mayor of Manilva Mario Jimenez congratulated the officers for their ‘professionalism and courage.’

“This was an isolated acts which required a forceful response to ensure the safety of the population,” added Jimenez.

Police have yet to comment directly on the case but have appealed to witnesses to come forward with videos and pictures.
