BRITS travelling to northern Spain in the near future are being urged to double-check their travel plans as a major airport in the region prepares to close its doors for over a month.
Santiago de Compostela airport in Galicia will close from April 23 to May 27 with no take-offs or landings allowed.
During that time, the airport will undergo a multi-million-euro glow-up ahead of the peak summer season.
The planned maintenance work includes full resurfacing of the runway plus improvements to lighting and drainage.
In a statement, Spanish airport operator Aena said: “Santiago de Compostela airport will be closed from April 23 to May 27 for runway resurfacing works.

“During this period, the airport will be closed to all air traffic, and no take-offs or landings will take place.
“If you have any questions about your flight status, schedule changes, or possible rebooking, we recommend contacting your airline.”
Around 30 flights a week currently connect the airport to the UK, run by airlines including Vueling, Ryanair and British Airways.
The route is popular with Brits visiting Galicia and pilgrims hoping to complete the famous Camino de Santiago.
Santiago de Compostela is Spain’s sixteenth busiest airport.
Last year, the airport served more than 3.1 million passengers.
That figure represented a 14.3 per cent fall on traffic in 2024, according to Aena.
