LOCAL residents and holidaymakers visiting the Costa del Sol have been urged to exercise caution next week after a weather warning was activated for extraordinary heat.
State meteorological agency Aemet have issued a yellow alert for extreme temperatures, warning of sizzling highs of 37C on Tuesday as Spain continues to enjoy an unusually hot end to May.
The warning covers the Axarquia and Sol and Guadalhorce regions, encompassing popular areas including Malaga, Marbella and Estepona.

The alert kicks in at 2pm on Tuesday and covers a six-hour period when temperatures will be highest, until 8pm.
While a yellow warning indicates ‘low-risk’, health authorities are still urging residents to take precautions, such as staying hydrated, avoiding prolonged exposure to the sun and taking extra care with vulnerable people, including the elderly, young children and those with underlying health conditions.
The latest warning comes as much of western Europe continues to bask in an unprecedented heatwave, with a series of May records broken in recent days.
