SPAIN welcomed 9.1 million international tourists in April, a 5.2% annual rise, according to figures published on Tuesday by the National Statistics Institute(INE).
The April total is the highest ever, while the total spend of foreign travellers hit €11.6 billion, 7.4% more than last year.
The average outlay per tourist stood at €1,291 with an annual increase of 2.1%, while the average daily spend went up by 1.4%, to €189.

Cumulatively, Spain clocked up almost 26.6 million international tourists in the first four months of the year- up by 3.4% increase on 2025.
They parted with €36.7 billion between January and April, an increase of 6.7% compared to the first four months of 2025.
“These April figures confirm a first four-month period in which spending growth remains above the increase in the pace of arrivals,” the Ministry of Industry and Tourism stated.
The United Kingdom maintained its position as the dominant market (almost 4.9 million tourists and a 2.5% increase).
It was followed by France (more than 3.3 million and a 1.8% decrease), and Germany (around 3.3 million, 2.8% less).
The UK also led the cumulative spending rankings between January and April, with 15.1% of the total, followed by Germany (12.2%) and France (7.6%).
The regions with highest tourist numbers in the first four months of 2026 were the Canary Islands (5.7 million tourists, up by 0.2%).
Next were Catalunya (5.4 million and an increase of 0.8%), and then Andalucia (4.2 million, 6.3% more).
In regard to cumulative spending in the first four months, the Canary Islands accounted for 23.8% of the total.
They were followed by Catalunya on 17.7%, and the Madrid region with 16.3%.
