A MAN has been arrested for deliberately running down a teenage tourist with his car in Malaga’s historic centre.
The Policia Nacional caught up with him three weeks after the attack, which happened in the early hours of July 15 in Plaza de la Merced, a leafy square in Malaga’s historic centre best known as the birthplace of Pablo Picasso.
The victim, 17, had just left a restaurant when the suspect’s car struck him in a minor, glancing blow.
The two were strangers, but a row broke out in the street straight after the collision.
Witnesses told police the driver, 30, then reversed, turned the car back towards the teenager, and deliberately drove into him again.
The car’s left-side wheels rolled over one of his legs, ending with the teenager needing emergency surgery for a fractured fibula.
The driver did not stop and fled the scene alone.

He is being held on suspicion of causing injury by deliberately using a car as a weapon, a criminal charge rather than a simple traffic offence.
Detectives from the Policia Nacional’s Centro district station in Malaga built the case from the victim’s own complaint and statements from several witnesses who saw what happened.
They traced the vehicle involved before identifying and arresting the suspect.
Police have not named the suspect, and no court date has yet been set.
