Shock in Mijas as 25-year-old man in wheelchair dies after being stabbed in chest

A WHEELCHAIR-BOUND 25-year-old man has been stabbed to death on the Costa del Sol four years after surviving a shooting which left him paralysed.

The victim was attacked inside a property in the Mijas Golf urbanisation, in Malaga province, on Monday afternoon.

He suffered a serious stab wound to the chest and was rushed to hospital by a friend after being found bleeding heavily.

Despite doctors’ efforts to save him, he died at Marbella’s Costa del Sol Hospital shortly afterwards.

The Guardia Civil has launched an investigation and is searching for the person responsible for the attack.

Officers arrived at the property after receiving reports that a man had been seriously injured, but the victim and suspected attacker had already left.

Investigators are now working to establish exactly what happened inside the property and what prompted the stabbing.

The victim had previously been the target of a shooting in Mijas in October 2022.

He was shot several times as he left a restaurant in the Calahonda area, with four bullets reportedly hitting him.

One of the shots caused a spinal cord injury which left him permanently wheelchair-bound, according to Diario SUR.

The gunman, who was wearing a face covering, fled the scene on a motorcycle after opening fire.

The 25-year-old had also previously been involved in several violent incidents.

In 2020, he was arrested after allegedly stabbing his stepfather before barricading himself inside his home.

Then, in 2023, he again barricaded himself inside a property while armed with a pistol.

During the ensuing Guardia Civil operation, he allegedly opened fire on officers, shooting one in the foot before being arrested.

Investigators are now examining whether his violent past could be linked to his death.

A possible revenge attack is among the lines of inquiry being considered, according to local reports.

The killing comes amid a recent spate of violent deaths in Malaga province, including the murder of a woman in San Pedro Alcantara.
