A BRITISH woman was rushed to hospital in the Canary Islands after suffering severe injuries from a fall from the roof of an abandoned building.
Emergency services were called to Calle Princesa Guayarmina in Puerto del Carmen, a popular tourist town on the southeast coast of Lanzarote, just before midnight on Sunday evening after receiving an alert that a woman had fallen.
The 32-year-old Brit landed in a difficult-to-access area near the building, meaning emergency service personnel needed to navigate around a two-metre-high wall to transfer her to an ambulance.
She sustained severe injuries after plunging more than seven metres and was taken to Doctor Jose Molina Orosa Hospital, a 15-minute drive away in nearby Arrecife, for treatment.
The full extent of the victim’s injuries have not yet been made public, nor the exact circumstances of why she was on the roof of an abandoned building.
A full investigation into the circumstances surrounding the incident is ongoing.
The Canary Islands have seen a spike in similar incidents in the past year.
In December 2025, a 13-year-old girl was killed after falling from the unfinished Añaza hotel in Tenerife while exploring the property with her friends.
A month later, two British tourists were fined €575 after visiting the abandoned hotel and taking photos from its roof.
