NEIGHBOURS in a Madrid neighbourhood are in mourning after an 85-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of strangling his former daughter-in-law to death.
Police were called to a property in the district of Arganzuela on Saturday morning after the retired ex-Guardia Civil officer told his son he had committed ‘a serious act’.
The family member alerted the emergency services, who dispatched Policia Nacional officers and medical personnel to the scene.
Upon entering the property, officers discovered the lifeless body of a 47-year-old Asian woman with visible signs of violence, with the cause of death believed to be strangulation with a belt.
The 85-year-old man – her former father-in-law – was arrested at the scene on suspicion of her murder.
Early indications suggest the killing may have stemmed from a dispute over the woman’s right to remain in the property, with the suspect reportedly wanting to evict her from the home.
Forensic specialists from the Violent Crimes Group of the Provincial Scientific Police Brigade carried out an initial inspection of the scene to gather evidence.
The Policia Nacional’s Homicide Group VI have taken charge of the investigation to clarify the exact circumstances of the woman’s death
