A DUTCH national who vanished from his Malaga home nearly two weeks ago has been found dead, according to friends and family.

The body of Jeroen Mertens, a builder who lived in the expat hotspot of Alhaurin el Grande, was located at a property near his home on Wednesday.

It was later revealed he left his home without his car, and although he had his wallet with him, no transactions were detected on his bank account.

His mobile phone was also switched off.

According to the missing persons charity SOS Desaparecidos, he was last seen wearing an olive-green T-shirt, blue jeans and blue Adidas trainers

The cause of death is currently unknown.

An investigation has been launched to clarify the circumstances of his death.
