A PASSENGER has miraculously walked away without physical injuries from the devastating Urda train crash after surviving the Adamuz tragedy just months earlier.
The woman, named only as Carmen, was travelling on the train that derailed in the Toledo municipality of Urda, killing 69 people.
Remarkably, she was also a victim of the horrific Adamuz rail disaster in Cordoba on January 18, which claimed 46 lives.
While she has escaped physical harm in both incidents, the survivor is said to be deeply traumatised.
Carmen Garcia, a Red Cross worker who treated her at the scene in Urda, told Cuatro’s En Boca de Todos programme that the passenger was unable to speak to the media.
She said: “She has no physical damage, but emotionally she is very affected.”
Garcia added that the scene where families are waiting was chaotic, with people managing the situation in their own ways.
She said: “There are people with a blank stare, very generous people who are worried about someone who was in the seat next to them and they don’t see them in the pavilion. There are people who are very sad and angry.”
The tragedy has also brought back painful memories for other survivors of the January crash.
Amalia Montealegre, another young survivor of the Andalucian disaster, lamented that safety lessons had not been learned.
She said: “It’s been less than a year since the same thing happened and nothing has been solved, it has happened again.”
Javier Pacios, whose relative died in Adamuz, told Informativos Telecinco that seeing the destroyed carriages was horrifying.
He said: “I have no words. It is horrifying what we are seeing and what it is stirring up for us again.”
