Judge suspended for bribery

by

Marbella Judge Francisco Javier de Urquia has been suspended for allegedly taking bribes.

The High Court is investigating whether he accepted money from developers and even Juan Antonio Roca, the mastermind behind the long-running Malaya corruption investigation.

The deeds for the judge’s house were said to have been among Roca’s papers.

Investigators allege that these payments could have brought favourable decisions on some of the illegal multi-million pound developments in Marbella.

Urquai, 38, is a regular face on Marbella’s nightlife scene, despite having a wife and baby daughter.

It is claimed that police saw him on close friendly terms with one of the chief Malaya suspects.

Urquai – who has himself been investigating the Hidalgo money-laundering case – was questioned for two hours in Granada.

While he was not officially arrested, the High Court judges stressed that he would remain under investigation and would be unable to continue work.
