DON’T MISS: Episode 3 of the Olive Press Podcast is out now – is the Costa del Crime back, are your retirement savings safe from the pension cowboys, and have they finally found Maddie?

Dear Olive Press readers,

Caroline, Walter and Jon return to chew the fat over the hot expat topics in Spain. On the menu this week is a varied diet of crime, scandal and Maddie.

The notion of the Costa del Crime exploded back into people’s consciousnesses earlier this month with the slaying of two Scottish gangsters in Fuengirola. The team chat over the case and answer the question: are regular people safe in the Costa del Sol? The conversation touches on old mafia cases, current Swedish mafia trials and a couple of high-powered people in politics.

The other hot topic is one that has been flying under the radar: If you have your pension invested in offshore funds, just how safe is it? Our exclusive reporting has revealed how pension and fund managers obsess over commissions they can trouser for themselves and not the returns they can earn for their clients.

And finally Maddie McCann is once again at the front of people’s minds as Portuguese and German cops undertook yet another search for her in the Algarve. Jon was there reporting live from the scene and he regales the OP listeners with just what he unearthed from the investigation.

There’s also a host of other topics covered in the week’s news that might have missed your radar.

The Olive Press podcast is for English-speaking expats in Spain, visiting tourists and curious Spaniards, interested in the clash of cultures, crime, and politics shaping modern Spain.

Hosted by Caroline Lips and joined by Olive Press editor Jon Clarke and digital editor Walt Finch, each week the gang dive into breaking stories, longform investigations, and in-depth interviews with local residents, police, and political figures.
