SPAIN FA has appointed former goalkeeper Julen Lopetegui as the new head coach.

The former Porto manager takes charge with immediate effect, replacing Vincente del Bosque who resigned following Spain’s Euro2016 defeat to Italy.

The appointment ends speculation linking Lopetegui with a move to England where he was tipped to replace Kenny Jackett at Wolves.

He has led Spain extensively at youth level, managing the U19, U20 and U21 sides.
