VIDEO footage has emerged of a Spaniard being attacked for speaking in his native tongue on a UK high street.
Tomas Gil, from Valencia, was talking to his girlfriend after a night out in Poole when he was set upon by a thug.
The 27 year old was overheard by Danial Way, who proceeded to rip a plank of wood off a building and smash it into Gil’s face.
He shouted during the attack: “Fucking Spanish, speak English!”
The incident was caught on CCTV and shows Gil fall to the ground after being hit.
He was briefly knocked unconscious and suffered cuts and bruises to his mouth.
Way was restrained by members of the public until he was arrested on May 19.
He has pleaded guilty to racially aggravated assault occasioning actual bodily harm and criminal damage.
Judge Brian Forster called Way’s behaviour ‘totally unacceptable’.
He said: “On the morning in question, you took part in what can only be considered to be totally gratuitous and unnecessary violence.”
Way was convicted to 12 months in prison and must complete 150 hours of unpaid work and carry out 25 rehabilitation activity days and pay his victim just short of €900.
Just in case anyone didn’t know, the lunatics have taken over the asylum in the UK and sadly, this kind of behaviour is not uncommon now.
and more to come unfortunately
The sentence should have been much harsher and well publicised to maybe deter this ignorant filth from similar actions.
Pity that he only got the sentence that he did. I wonder how a similar case would have been handled in Spain should any Spaniard be so barbaric (which I doubt)?
The ongoing inquest into the death of a British rugby player at the hands of the police in Spain, is looking pretty barbaric. Three times an onlooking doctor warned the officer to remove the baton being pressed on the mans’ throat and three times he was ignored. The man died. The Spanish authorities are ignoring the courts’ pleas for a comment/statement.
12 months for what he did is not enough 2years would be just right as for what he did to the man could have been far worse
David – interesting point and I think you might be shocked at the outcome.
Well, he was drunk, Does it count as an alibi? The media intention of making the affair look like racist doesn´t seem fair or does it?
Alcohol is not an alibi; it doesn’t create attitudes not already present.
