British fugitive pensioner in Spain extradited to UK to face rape charges

A BRITISH pensioner has been extradited to the UK to stand trial for rape.

Jeffrey Waite, 65, from Hartlepool, is due to appear at Teeside Magistrates’ Court this morning.

He was picked up in Spain after fleeing here in 2016 and was extradited to the UK.

It came after British authorities issued a European Arrest Warrant after he failed to appear for trial in August 2016.

A spokeswoman for Cleveland Police said: “65-year-old Jeffrey Waite, originally from the Hartlepool area, will appear at Teesside Magistrates’ Court this morning, Wednesday, March 21, charged with rape.”
