A NEW Environmental Assessment Law will give the government priority in purchasing protected land 10 hectares and larger.

Before, the Balearic government had rights to protected lands that went on the market bigger than 100 hectares, but the new law has been approved and is ready for Parliament approval.

The aim is to slow urban development, especially in sensitive areas, and reclaim more of the natural coastline and mountain range.

The new law also extends the ban on ‘party boats’ from just protected natural areas to also include ‘spaces of environmental relevance’.
