BREAKING: Rescue operation underway after highrise apartment catches fire on Costa del Sol

FIREMEN are carrying out a rescue operation on the Costa del Sol after an apartment in a highrise residential block caught fire.

A child has been rescued from a balcony after flames have engulfed the top floor dwelling in Edificio Maicandil in Manilva.

An ambulance and three fire engines have rushed to the scene.

It is not clear how many people are trapped in the apartment.

Bomberos are using a specialised crane to bring the residents down to safety.

The cause of the fire remains unknown.
