QUITS: May calls time on her leadership in emotional speech

AN emotional Theresa May has announced her resignation in a dramatic speech outside 10 Downing Street, after a turbulent three years as Prime Minister.

May fought back tears during the speech which came after intense pressure to resign from her own party.

Being unable to deliver Brexit and honour the referendum result remained a matter of ‘deep regret,’ the PM said.

The speech confirmed that May will quit on June 7, a leadership contest is due to begin the following week.

May said to serve as Britain’s second female Prime Minister was the ‘honour of my life’ but added a new PM was ‘in the best interests of the country’.
