Alicante airport reopened after private plane crashed upon landing

ALICANTE airport has reopened after a private plane crashed upon landing at 2pm this afternoon.

The landing gear of the jet collapsed as it touched down on the Costa Blanca, sending the belly of the aircraft skidding down the runway.

Only two people were reported on board, with neither injured.

At least 35 flights to the airport were delayed meanwhile 20 were diverted mid-air to nearby airports in Valencia, Murcia and Barcelona.

Flights out of the airport were also grounded until the plane could be removed by a truck and the runway inspected for damage.

At 5.40 the airport was reopened and traffic resumed as normal.

Primary hypothesis assume the private jet’s tyres blew out upon landing.
