“I WOULD love it if Almodovar called me to do a movie. Pedro loves women.”

Those were the quotes that Spanish newspaper El Español chose to headline its recent interview with English-Albanian pop sensation Dua Lipa, after she confessed her desire to appear in one of the films made by Spain’s most-famous director, Pedro Almodovar.

Whether or not her celluloid dreams will come true is yet to be seen, but she did at least get to enjoy the company of the Oscar winner this last weekend when they dined together in one of Madrid’s most exclusive eateries.

But it wasn’t just Lipa and Almodovar who were present at the lunch date in BiBo, one of the many restaurants that renowned chef Dani Garcia has in the Spanish capital, but also a few very well-known faces from Hollywood.

Titled The Room Next Door, Almodovar’s production company describes the movie as ‘the story of a very imperfect mother (Tilda Swinton) and a spiteful daughter separated by a huge misunderstanding. In between the two is another woman, Ingrid (Julianne Moore), the mother’s friend, who is the repository of their pain and bitterness’.

Almodovar, 74, shot to fame in the 1980s thanks to his distinctive style as a filmmaker and screenwriter.

Hollywood superstars such as Antonio Banderas and Penelope Cruz appeared in several of his movies, which have seen him win two Oscars, five BAFTAs, and nine Goyas in his native Spain.
