A SECOND person has died after a horrifying rockfall wiped out a group climbing mountains in northern Spain.
Marc and Laura, both aged 30, were left in a critical condition over the weekend after several rocks struck the pair while they were traversing a route in Montserrat, Catalunya with a larger group.
Emergency services were called to the scene at 4.30pm on Saturday after a walker found a man and a woman lying unconscious.
Firefighters deployed two aerial units and four ground crews, plus two rescue helicopters from the Emergency Medical System.
The man was given successful CPR at the scene by paramedics, before being transferred to Vall d’Hebron Hospital in nearby Barcelona by helicopter.

He sadly died shortly after.
The woman was airlifted to Bellvitge Hospital in L’Hospitalet de Llobregat before succumbing to her injuries.
In response, the Montserrat Mountain Trust immediately closed five popular climbing routes to allow police to investigate the fall site.
It is understood that both of the deceased were from Barcelona, located 50km away and visible from the mountains on a clear day.
