NEIGHBOURS on the Costa del Sol were left reeling on Thursday morning after the body of an elderly Ukrainian woman was discovered near a popular sports centre.
Emergency services rushed to Juan Roa Sports Center in Osunillas, near Fuengirola, at around 9am after several local residents alerted the 112 hotline.
Paramedics and officers from the Guardia Civil and Policia Local attended the scene but were unable to save the woman, who was reportedly already dead.
According to information provided by police, the victim was an elderly woman of Ukrainian nationality who lived nearby.
Initial investigations suggest she may have taken her own life, although an autopsy will take place to establish the exact cause of death.
