A TRADITIONAL festival in Andalucia ended in horror after a man was gored to death by a raging bull.
Chilling footage shows onlookers watching in shock as the animal charged cattle herder Santiago Barrero San Roman, 33, in the town of Beas de Segura, Jaen, on Friday afternoon.
Barrero, who suffered severe injuries to his chest, abdomen and groin, died en route to hospital around 8pm.
The tragedy overshadowed the popular toro ensogado festival on the day of San Marcos, where a bull is released into the streets while being controlled with ropes attached to its horns.
Festivities were suspended for the remainder of Friday, with a minute’s silence held the following day in tribute to Barrero.
The incident has reignited debate over animal welfare and bull-running traditions on social media, with some users branding the practice “primitive”.
“This tragedy could have been avoided if animal abuse were prohibited in Spain. What a barbaric country,” one account wrote on X (formerly Twitter).
It comes just days after one of Spain’s most famous bullfighters was left in agony following a goring in Seville.
Jose Antonio Morante Camacho, known as Morante de la Puebla, was performing at the city’s Feria de Abril when a bull threw him to the ground, trampled his back, and caused serious injuries.
A medical report released to the press stated the Seville-born torero suffered a horn wound measuring approximately 10cm, partially damaging the anal sphincter muscles, with a 1.5cm perforation to the posterior rectal wall.
Doctors said the matador, widely regarded as one of the best of his generation, was in a ‘very serious’ but non-life-threatening condition.
“I had a rather rough night,” the 46-year-old said from his hospital bed in the Andalusian capital.
“It’s the injury that has hurt me the most. I was in immense pain and also very afraid because I thought I was bleeding heavily.

“I feared it may have reached my intestines. When I got to the infirmary and saw the bleeding was slight, I relaxed, but it still hurt a great deal.
“The truth is I’m in a lot of pain. I had a fairly normal night of light sleep. I’ve got no appetite, and I’m hoping to get through it with a bit of patience.”
