DRIVERS struggling to find a suitable space near Marbella’s bus station should find parking easier from next week after the city council said work to complete a temporary parking lot was almost complete.
A new 140-space car park will open to vehicles from early May while the construction of a nearby underground parking garage continues, officials have said.
The facility is being built next to the La Florida skate park, located across the road from Marbella’s busy bus station.
Local councillor Diego Lopez said the pop-up parking lot ‘will make things easier’ for residents impacted by the ongoing disruption, allowing for ‘smoother traffic flow in the area’.
“The goal is to provide residents who previously parked their cars inside the youth centre with easy access to a nearby and secure parking location, thus preventing traffic congestion in the neighbourhood,” he added.

The project is being carried out on a 4,500-square metre plot of land that required extensive clearing and grubbing, levelling of the terrain and removal of existing fencing.
Rainwater drainage channels will now be installed, as well as gravel, paving, traffic signs, horizontal markings and fencing around the perimeter of the site.
The parking lot will also have entry and exit barriers to ensure safety, Lopez said.
Officials hope the temporary situation will ease congestion in the area while work is completed on a larger underground parking lot beneath the Africa hostel.
That car park will have space for up to 600 vehicles, which Lopez says will end traffic woes in the area for locals and visitors.
