Two police officers commended for successfully resuscitating nine-month-old baby in Marbella

TWO police officers have been commended for successfully resuscitating a nine-month-old baby on the Costa del Sol.

The Marbella Policia Local agents were circulating in a patrol car on Wednesday when they were flagged down by a group on the street near Avenida Duque de Ahumada at approximately 4.50pm.

Upon realising that an emergency was occurring they stopped the car and jumped out to find a mother, who was in a state of shock, and a baby which was not breathing and had no pulse, according to sources close to SUR.

With the infant not responding and her skin turning blue, the officers placed the girl in the recovery position by lying her down and turning her head to one side. As they did so her mother tried to clear her airways.

After over a minute the infant caught her breath and began to cry, the sound of these tears brought relief to her mother, the police and all witnesses.

Reportedly the child had a temperature from a virus and this could have caused her to lose consciousness.

Once the baby was breathing again, she was taken to the Hospital Costa del Sol in an ambulance.

Although she was found to be in a stable condition and could breath by herself, she stayed in the hospital for the night while staff in the Unidad de Cuidados Intensivos (UCI) observed her and evaluated her condition.
