GUESTS at a hotel in Torremolinos were forced to evacuate late at night after two mobility scooters caught fire in the hotel reception.

The fire started at Hotel Isabel on Avenida del Lido shortly before 10pm on Wednesday evening, according to Andalucia’s 112 emergency service.

When firefighters arrived, they found that the fire started in two electric wheelchairs for people with reduced mobility, which were located near the hotel entrance.

Smoke quickly spread through parts of the hotel, forcing a full evacuation as a safety measure.

Guests were taken outside while emergency workers spent hours putting out the fire and ventilating the building.

Holidaymakers were later moved to other nearby hotels, although it’s not clear how many people were staying there at the time.

No serious injuries have been reported and there has been no further update on those affected.

The hotel stayed closed overnight while safety checks continued after the fire.
