ANDALUCIA has been rocked by its second suspected drowning death in a matter of hours after the body of a lifeless man in his 40s was pulled out of the water off Marbella.
The tragic incident unfolded at Calahonda beach in Mijas on Tuesday afternoon after beachgoers relaxing at nearby chiringuitos spotted a body floating lifelessly at sea.
Several witnesses rushed into the sea to help the man.
According to Andalucia’s 112 emergency service, they managed to pull him out of the water.
Medical personnel, including paramedics from the 061 Emergency Health Service, carried out CPR at the scene.
However, the man – understood to be in his 40s – was later pronounced dead.

The identity of the man has not been revealed and the circumstances surrounding his death remain under investigation.
The shocking incident came just hours after a pensioner died on a separate Andalucia beach.
Emergency services rushed to Playa Puerta del Mar, located 120km along the coast in Almuñecar, after receiving reports of an elderly man unconscious in the sea.
The body of the man was pulled from the water by beachgoers who immediately began performing CPR on the sand in a desperate bid to save his life.
The emergency coordination centre deployed crew from the 061 Emergency Health Centre, alongside officers from the Policia Local and Guardia Civil.
Despite the rapid response of the emergency teams and the resuscitation efforts on the beach, the man was pronounced dead at the scene.
An autopsy will now be performed on both men to determine whether they drowned or suffered a fatal medical episode while in the water.
