CATALUNYA is bracing for heaving rain and thunderstorms with an orange alert in place across the region less than a week after temperatures soared to 40C.
An orange weather warning is in place in Barcelona and Girona with heavy rainfall, hail and thunderstorms forecast.
Catalunya is set to be lashed by heavy downpours, with between 40 and 60mm of rain expected in just one hour.

Strong gusts of wind of up to 60km/h are also set to hit the region.
Temperatures have also dropped significantly in the region with highs of 24C in Barcelona and 27C in Girona.
It comes less than a week after the region was hit by a sweltering heatwave that broke Catalunya’s previous May temperature record.

A high of 39.5C was recorded in the Catalonian town of Vinebre on Friday 29 May, marking an unseasonably hot end to spring.
As well as the orange warnings in Barcelona and Girona, yellow warnings for rain are in place across much of Catalunya, Aragon and Valencia.
