Mystery in Malaga after two people found dead inside flat with gunshot wounds

POLICE in Malaga have launched an investigation after two people were found dead inside a flat with gunshot wounds.

The bodies were discovered by authorities at about 7.30am on 5 June after neighbours in the La Palmilla neighbourhood in Malaga reported hearing gunshots.

They discovered the lifeless bodies of a 51-year-old woman and her partner, a 56-year old man,  inside their flat.

Authorities are treating the case as suspected gender-based violence, with initial reports suggesting the man may have killed his partner before turning the gun on himself.

Javier Salas, a government representative in Malaga, confirmed this stating: “The Policia Nacional are investigating the murder of a 51-year-old woman in the northern part of Malaga city, suspected to be a case of gender-based violence. I utterly condemn this scourge of gender-based violence. My condolences to the family and friends of the victim.”

Neither the alleged perpetrator nor the victim was registered in Spain’s VioGen system, which is designed to monitor and protect victims of gender-based violence.

This suggests the suspect had not previously been flagged as a potential aggressor and that there were no recorded reports of domestic abuse involving the couple.

The Policia Nacional’s Homicide Unit continues to investigate the case alongside the government’s Gender Violence Unit.
