New MRI scanner at Marbella hospital promises faster, more comfortable prostate cancer detection

The new multiparametric MRI scanner at Quirónsalud Marbella.

PROSTATE cancer is one of the most common cancers affecting men, and early, accurate diagnosis remains crucial to successful treatment.

At Quirónsalud Marbella Hospital, patients now have better access to multiparametric prostate MRI, one of the most effective tools for detecting and assessing prostate cancer.

The hospital has recently installed a second MRI scanner, increasing capacity, reducing waiting times and allowing more patients to benefit from advanced diagnostic imaging.

Multiparametric MRI scans give doctors a detailed picture of the prostate, helping them spot signs of cancer earlier and more accurately.

According to Dr Ivan Artero, Head of Diagnostic Imaging at Quirónsalud Marbella Hospital, the scan has transformed the way prostate cancer is diagnosed and managed.

“Multiparametric MRI allows us to assess the prostate with a high degree of precision and identify suspicious cells more reliably”, he explained.

He also highlights its role in planning biopsies: “Thanks to this scan, we can better guide biopsies, increase accuracy and obtain crucial information to decide on the most appropriate treatment for each patient”.

The scan is particularly valuable for men with elevated PSA (Prostate-Specific Antigen) levels, abnormal examination results, suspected prostate cancer, or for those requiring further assessment before a biopsy.

By helping doctors identify which patients are most likely to benefit from a biopsy, the technology can reduce unnecessary procedures while improving diagnostic accuracy.

The addition of a second MRI scanner also means faster access to diagnostic imaging, something that can be especially important for oncology patients where early diagnosis is critical.

“Having a second machine is not just about adding more technology,” said Dr Artero. “It also allows us to respond more quickly and provide specialists with the information they need in a shorter timeframe”.

MRI has become an essential tool across modern medicine because it can examine multiple organs and systems without exposing patients to radiation.

The hospital’s new scanner incorporates advanced imaging technology capable of producing high-resolution images more quickly, improving both patient comfort and efficiency.

The new scanner also has a more spacious design, making scans more comfortable for patients who may feel anxious or claustrophobic during an MRI.

“The more comfortable a patient feels during the examination, the better the image quality tends to be, which ultimately leads to greater diagnostic confidence”, Dr Artero added.

Beyond prostate imaging, the new scanner will further strengthen Quirónsalud Marbella’s diagnostic capabilities across a range of specialties, including musculoskeletal conditions, neuroradiology, abdominal and pelvic imaging, breast studies, vascular imaging and selected cardiac MRI examinations.
