How these boutique recovery centres in Marbella and Sotogrande are drawing expats from across the globe

JOSE had taken up drinking when he was 15.

After more than 30 years tied to the bottle, he feared his life had ‘no fix’ and felt he was ‘broken’ beyond repair.

Then, earlier this year, he decided to seek help at Oasis Premium Recovery, a cutting-edge rehab residence in Marbella’s Sierra Blanca.

And his life changed forever.

“I arrived at Oasis pretty broken and with zero hope,” he said.

“But here they don’t treat you like just another case, they look you in the eye and they actually stay with you, even when you can’t do it yourself.

“I’m sleeping properly again, thinking clearer, and I can be around my family without hiding,” he added.

“I’m not saying it’s magic, but for me it’s been a real before and after.”

Jose is one of hundreds of people whose lives have been turned around since two partner rehab centres were established along the Costa del Sol over the past two years.

One, the Sea Recovery Centre, was set up in 2024 in Sotogrande, an exclusive enclave near Marbella surrounded by forests, mountains, lakes and rivers.

The other, founded in 2025, is Oasis, where Jose checked in. The centre is nestled in the foothills of La Concha mountain, just a stone’s throw from the shimmering expanse of the Mediterranean.

Both facilities are striking in their own right. Sea Recovery is set deep within Andalucia’s rolling countryside, with expansive gardens and outdoor spaces that encourage patients to reconnect with nature.

Oasis, meanwhile, occupies an elegant villa with terraces overlooking the dazzling sea below.

Both centres are deliberately small and intimate, featuring comfortable private suites, communal living areas and dedicated wellness spaces where patients can focus entirely on their recovery away from the pressures of daily life.

They are also pet-friendly, allowing clients to bring their dogs and other companion animals with them – a policy the centres say can play an important role in reducing anxiety and supporting long-term recovery.

The two facilities operate under the same philosophy. A highly qualified team of around 50 staff across the two centres offers tailor-made treatment to every patient, ensuring each person receives the individual attention they need.

“This is the approach that we believe works best for those who come to us,” said Sam Witkin, the centres’ head of admissions.

“For each of our patients, we look at everything about their clinical and mental history – and then come up with a bespoke plan,” he added.

Unlike many larger rehabilitation clinics, the centres deliberately limit the number of residents they treat at any one time, caring for between just 10 and 15 clients to ensure every person receives truly bespoke support.

Udaltsova said most clients fly in from the UK, the US, the UAE and across Europe, seeking confidential and discreet treatment away from the stresses of everyday life.

While addiction remains a core speciality, the centres also support people dealing with trauma, PTSD, burnout, anxiety, eating disorders, shopping addiction and sex addiction.

Each client receives an individually tailored recovery plan combining evidence-based therapies with a holistic approach to wellbeing.

Patients are supported by a multilingual, multidisciplinary team, while medical evaluations and detox programmes are coordinated through licensed partners when required.

The facilities also place a strong emphasis on rebuilding family relationships, helping clients prepare for life after treatment through reintegration planning and a lifetime aftercare approach designed to support long-term recovery.

“We stay with our patients long after they leave us,” Witkin said. “We truly strive to help.”

As a testament to that, Jose’s account is just one of many success stories.

Another patient said they decided to check into Oasis to shake a deeply entrenched opioid habit of around 600mg a day.

One month into their treatment, they said they were completely off the drug.

At Sea Recovery, meanwhile, another patient was able to overcome longstanding childhood trauma and crippling anxiety thanks to what they described as ‘life-changing therapy’ and the ‘compassion and belief from each and every staff member.’

“[This is] a place to heal, grow and inspire, whatever your condition,” they said.

“In this technological world, it was an absolute honour to stop and reconnect,” they added.
