‘Cocky’ driver injures two Malaga police officers arresting him for refusing to move his double-parked car blocking a fire engine attending an apartment alarm

An ARROGANT driver who parked unlawfully and blocked fire responders has been arrested after ignoring the authorities and causing injuries from being tackled to the ground.

Two out of four officers responding to a suspected fire in the Carretera de Cadiz district of Malaga were wounded after a tussle with a defiant driver.

The incident occurred on Thursday around 6pm when authorities were called to a Malaga apartment building for a suspected fire.

Arriving at the scene, two local police officers and two Policia Nacional members found the building entrance was blocked by a motorist who had double parked his vehicle.

The officers gave the man orders to move his car out of the way for the arriving firefighters.

However, the cocky driver refused to listen, resulting in two of the officers charging the individual and taking him down onto the asphalt to handcuff.

In the process, one local Malaga officer and one national police officer suffered several bruises.

The insubordinate was arrested and taken to the provincial police station.

Firefighters eventually arrived at the scene and found that there was no fire in the apartment building, allowing for street traffic to resume as normal.

Spain’s Penal Code explains that ignoring or refusing to follow direct orders from a Spanish police officer is the criminal offense desobediencia (disobedience).

A person accused of passively or actively resisting authority can face fines and a jail sentence from three months up to one year.
