A BRITISH and Ukrainian crime ring has been busted for running a fake UK driving licence operation from printing factories on the Costa del Sol, with forged IDs sold for €300 a pop
Authorities seized 592 forged British licences, €56,000 cash, $41,000 in cryptocurrency and a clandestine lab capable of producing 100 forged documents per day in a series of raids on Mijas Costa and Marbella.
Following the raids, a Brit and a Ukrainian, believed to be the ringleaders of the group, have been arrested.
The investigation was launched after UK authorities alerted Spain’s police to four packages intercepted from Spain containing 287 fake UK driving licences.
Although the majority of forged IDs were destined for the UK, investigators also found packages heading to Saudi Arabia, Italy, Germany and France.
With the group charging €300 per licence and churning out up to 100 licences a day, the operation proved extremely lucrative.
Police also seized top of the range printing equipment from the clandestine printing factory and several guns.
