A NORWEGIAN teenager killed in a hit-and-run on the Costa del Sol this week was planning to go to a friend’s birthday party in her hometown of Arenda straight from the airport once she returned home.
Nikoline Piwoni Hoie lost her life on the day she was due to fly home from Spain after celebrating Norway’s World Cup victory over Brazil in Puerto Banus.
The new details have emerged about the 17-year-old’s life – tragically cut short – from Norwegian newspaper Agderposten.
Horrifyingly, her friends back home only discovered the news of her death through reports in the Spanish media.
“I was told she had been hit and killed. That’s why she didn’t come home,” her close friend Helena Zachariassen, 16, told the newspaper.
She described Nikoline as someone who ‘always put everyone before herself’, with a large circle of friends who are now devastated by her loss.
Nikoline was also an active member of Norway’s Young Conservatives (Unge Hoyre).
Members paid tribute to her as an ‘enthusiastic’ and caring member who would be deeply missed.
Nikoline died early Monday morning in a hit-and-run, after leaving a nightclub in Puerto Banus.
She was last seen at around 4am on Monday morning at Funky Buddha in Puerto Banus, where she had been celebrating Norway’s World Cup victory with other young supporters on the Costa del Sol.
Less than two hours later, a young woman was struck and killed on the A-7 motorway near Mijas, around 30 kilometres from the nightclub.
Her death has triggered a manhunt for the driver who allegedly fled the scene after the suspected hit-and-run.
