A MOTHER of two has been found stabbed to death in her Antequera home just hours after her partner fell to his death from the city’s historic Alcazaba walls.
Policia Nacional has named the woman locally as Maria, 30, and is investigating her death alongside the fall of Antonio, 35, understood to be her ex-partner, who leapt from a gateway in the fortress walls known as the Arco de los Gigantes.
Antonio fell from the Alcazaba walls in Malaga province at around 11.50am on Monday.
Officers who identified him found he was flagged in Viogen as a domestic violence suspect and went to the address on his file, initially to inform Maria of his death and check on her welfare.
Neighbours reported hearing screams before emergency services received a call shortly around 2pm alerting officers to a woman’s body at a property on Calle Maderuelos, in Antequera’s historic centre.
Officers found Maria’s body with stab wounds including to the neck.
Maria and Antonio had two children together, a boy of four and a girl of seven.
Court records show Antonio’s file under Viogen, Spain’s national system for tracking domestic violence risk, was closed only days before the killing.

The closure is understood to have come by agreement between the two of them, with an Antequera court’s knowledge.
Viogen assigns each reported case a risk level and determines how closely police then monitor it; once a file is closed, that routine monitoring stops.
Maria’s case had been classed low-risk in the meantime, according to sources close to the investigation.
Antonio had been in the Viogen system since 2023, after Maria reported him for abuse.
The Subdelegacion del Gobierno is gathering evidence to send to the Delegacion del Gobierno contra la Violencia de Genero — the national body that keeps Spain’s official femicide count and will make the formal ruling on whether Maria’s death counts as gender violence.
If confirmed, Maria would be the fourth woman killed in suspected gender violence in Malaga province this month alone.
On July 1, the body of Cristina, 35, was found in a well in Rincon de la Victoria, a coastal town just outside Malaga city, months after she was reported missing; her ex-partner later confessed to stabbing her weeks earlier.
A week later, a 61-year-old woman and her 31-year-old daughter were found dead in their Mijas home after it was set alight; the mother’s partner was arrested on suspicion of using the fire to disguise the killings.
Should Maria’s death be confirmed as gender-motivated, it would mark the sixth such case in Malaga province so far this year, and the seventh woman to die as a result.
