27 BEACHES on the Costa Blanca will impose a swimming ban from 5pm on Thursday due to extreme weather.
Forecasters have predicted storms and strong wind gusts which could cause thermal blowouts.
Three municipalities- Alicante, Guardamar del Segura, and Orihuela- have so far decided to raise red flags due to the potential risks caused by a sudden change in weather.

The three councils have also appealed to beach-goers to remove umbrellas and other objects that might by thrown about by wind gusts.
Guardamar del Segura says the thermal blast expected from 5pm is capable of generating a sudden and dangerous increase in wind speed.
A thermal blowout can cause very strong gusts suddenly, even when minutes before the environment seemed stable.
For this reason, all three authorities are appealing for people not to wait for the first signs of the storm to appear.
They advise people to leave before 5pm and to follow the instructions of lifeguards, Local Police and emergency services at all times.
In Alicante, the bathing ban affects Postiguet, San Juan beach, Urbanova-El Saladar, Aguamarga, La Almadraba and Albufereta.
It will also be applied to the coves at Cabo de la Huerta and swimming areas at Tabarca island.
Measures on the Orihuela Costa includes the beaches at Punta Prima, Cala Mosca, Cala Estaca, Cala Bosque, Cala Capitan and Cala Cerrada. La Caleta, as well as the coves at Aguamarina, La Glea, Barranco Rubio and Mil Palmeras.
Guardamar’s ban affects Los Tusales, Los Vivers, Babilonia, Playa Centro, La Roqueta, Moncayo, Campo and Les Ortigues.
As of 12.30pm, the adjoining municipalities of Santa Pola and Torrevieja had yet to make a decision over their beaches.
Torrevieja had previously said that bathing bans would be imposed if the weather forecasts were ‘confirmed’.
