A FRESH heat alert have been issued for Alicante province with forecasters expecting inland highs to reach at least 40C with more torrid humid nights on the coast.
Yellow and orange warnings have been declared by the State Meteorological Agency (Aemet) with the peak of the latest heatwave expected on Thursday.
A yellow alert is in operation on Wednesday for the interior of Alicante province and the southern coast.

Temperature highs are expected of 38C in the pre-coastal area of the southern Vega Baja region.
Values will reach a peak on Thursday, according to Jorge Olcina from the University of Alicante’s climate department.
“In the coastal strip, maximum temperatures will remain continuously around 35C, but inland temperatures will widely exceed 40C.”
The nights will also be especially hot, with predictions that inland minimums will not fall below 20C, while on the coast, torrid tropical nights are expected with values values not falling under 27C.
Jorge Olcina continued: “In addition to these high night-time temperatures, relative humidity is close to 70%, recorded in recent days.”
“This combination will cause the sensation of heat at night to exceed 30C which will make sleeping difficult,” he continued.
Predicted temperatures in Villena are 37C on Wednesday and 43C on Thursday.
For Orihuela City, a high of 42C is expected on Thursday- the same as for Alcoy.
As for the ‘tropical’ nights, Aemet says temperatures in Orihuela will not fall below 26C on both Friday and Saturday.
