SPAIN’S State Meteorological Agency (Aemet) has activated a
special warning for a new heat wave- starting on Wednesday and lasting until at least Sunday.
The latest heat blast comes with an increase in the risk of forest fires, which will reach extreme levels in much of the country.
The forecast points to atmospheric stability marked by the dominance of high pressure over the western Mediterranean and the arrival of weather patterns leading to clear skies and intense sunshine.

The most affected heatwave areas will be the river valleys in south-western Spain, the Ebro valley, parts of the north-east, as well as the Canary Islands.
One of the projected heatwave’s biggest concerns is a likely probability in new forest fires being set off.
The combination of intense heat, a very dry environment, very low relative humidity and a southerly wind(with locally strong gusts), will cause the risk level of forest fires to reach extreme values.
These conditions, in addition to favouring the rapid spread of a blaze, will make extinguishing work significantly difficult in the event of fires happening.
On Wednesday, temperatures of between 39C and 41C are expected in the main valleys of the south-west of the peninsula, while being around 2C lower in large areas of the Northern Plateau and La Mancha.
Thursday could see temperatures in the areas listed above reach up to 41C while 42C maximums could be clocked up on Friday.
Not much significant change is expected over the weekend.
