A MOTORCYCLIST reportedly known to police is being hunted after allegedly striking a Guardia Civil traffic officer while escaping from a roadside stop in Mijas.

The incident happened at around 9.15am on Wednesday on the A-7053, the road linking Mijas with Alhaurin el Grande.

Guardia Civil traffic officers attempted to stop the rider after he was allegedly seen overtaking another vehicle across a solid white line.

Instead of pulling over, he sped away, prompting a pursuit.

The rider lost control of the motorcycle and fell during the chase. However, as officers approached, he restarted the bike and accelerated away, striking one of them in the hand and shoulder.

The officer suffered minor bruising and grazes but is understood to be out of danger.

Sources close to the investigation said the Yamaha had no compulsory insurance or valid ITV roadworthiness certificate.

The rider is also reported to have previous police records, although no details of his background have been released.

His name, age and nationality have not been made public, while the exact model, colour and registration number of the Yamaha remain unknown.

The Guardia Civil has opened an investigation to locate and arrest the motorcyclist, who remained at large according to the latest available information.
